A couple of things have changed since I published this blog titled “The King’s Trail – Kungsleden – Artic Sweden – Planning Update” back in March this year.
I waited until the end of May 2018 before I purchased my tickets. I was able to buy the train ticket going up to Abisko, but the return trip from Kiruna was still not available. Something about track maintenance, I’m not sure. I was wanting to do what I could for the environment and not fly and only travel by train. But I’m also a “control freak” and I didn’t want to leave it any longer to organise my transportation. So I purchased a one way train ticket for the trip up to Abisko and I bought an air-ticket for the journey home again from Kiruna. This also means that I get home a day earlier too. I also purchased the train ticket with a 25% off discount using the SJ mobile APP. So transport is all organised now.
I bought the bus ticket from Nikkaluokta to Kiruna as well Nikkaluokta Expressen. If you book this online then it is cheaper than buying it on the bus.
I’m still adjusting my packing list. It’s basically the same but I’m tweaking it a little from time to time. I’ve now taken the Tarptent Notch off the list and included my Zpacks Duplex shelter instead. Maybe I’ll change my mind again later; I’ve still plenty of time to decide.
I ordered a new custom down quilt from AS Tucas in the being of April. It has finally shipped last Friday so it should show up next week I hope. It will be the quilt that I’m packing for this trip.
This weekend I’ve completed the process of dehydrating (I did the dehydrating two weeks ago) and vacuum packing my meals ready for the next year’s hiking adventures. I made 25 meals. Here’s the menu:
- Curry beef, vegetables and potato
- Chilli con carne beef, vegetables and potato
- Chilli con carne beef, vegetables and rice
- Red curry chicken with couscous and vegetables
- Red curry chicken with rice and vegetables
- Curry chicken masala with rice and vegetables
- Tuna, vegetables, couscous with broccoli and cauliflower white sauce
- Tuna, vegetables, rice with broccoli and cauliflower white sauce
